Harri Sailas (Ilmarinen): Back to the Basics

"The mortgage credit crisis in the U.S. has not had any direct effects on the returns of Finnish employee pension investments, but the indirect effects may turn out to be significant if there is a permanent increase in the general uncertainty and economic growth in Finland slows down," said Harri Sailas, CEO of Ilmarinen, in the company´s 2007 annual report. He has been Ilmarinen´s managing director for 2 years and has been funding real estate investments in one way or another through most of his life.

Ilmarinen is a leading Finnish authorized pension insurance company. Some 263,000 people receive pension benefits from the company. About 34,000 employer companies have insured their employees with Ilmarinen. The total number of people insured amounts to 417,000.
