Pertti Huuskonen (Technopolis): Cluster Success Through Service Pioneering
"The growth of the technology sector began in Silicon Valley in the postwar era. We were among the pioneers of the field and in Europe one of the seven early-movers. As Nokia began its growth and President Gorbachev visited Technopolis 1989, our brand identification really took off," recalls Pertti Huuskonen, Chairman of the Board of Technopolis Plc since fall 2008. "Initially, I was a client of Technopolis for some three years," recalls Huuskonen. "I launched my own enterprise at 23 years old and moved to
Technopolis in its first stage in Oulu." He served as President and CEO from 1985 to 2008.
In terms of the number of clients,Technopolis is one of the largest technology center operators in Europe. It is also Finland´s largest company that specializes in providing operating environments for high tech companies and offers a comprehensive service package combining modern premises and business and development services. Some 16,000 people employed by 1,200 companies and other entities are currently working in the Technopolis technology centers. It operates in Helsinki, Espoo, Jyväskylä, Kuopio, Lappeenranta, Oulu, Tampere and Vantaa and in St. Petersburg in Russia.
